Flight 317 with Carter Logan

Wednesday, August 28
In 2008, a student ensemble group named Flight 317 was created by Carter Logan, a cofounder of the band Jerks of Grass and one of the first teaching artists at 317 Main Community Music Center in Yarmouth, Maine. Flight 317 members are recruited by Logan and are typically high school students who will then rotate out as they leave for college. These teens have the special honor of acting as stewards of the tradition while forging their own experiences and future as musicians. The current members have been playing together for two years and performed as a band over 20 times. Such performances include opening for the Boston-based, all-female trio, Lula Wiles, and rock, jazz, and blues legend, David Bromberg at the Portland House of Music.
“Ever since I saw Flight 317 perform when I was twelve, I wanted to be a part of it someday,” remembers band member, Sigrid Sibley. Her bandmate, Emi Schneider adds, “We hope to be positive role models and inspire other young kids to share their music and build community!”
